When three checks of a component fail in a row, our team is alerted at once. An engineer confirms it and posts it here; if nobody has within 15 minutes, it is posted here automatically. Owners and admins of organizations with machines get an email when an incident is posted and when it is resolved. These numbers are measured history, not a service level agreement.
Every component is checked from a server outside the platform, the way you reach it: an HTTPS request, an SSH greeting, an authenticated API call. Every five minutes a check also creates a machine, runs a command in it, loads a page from its HTTPS URL and destroys it. A day's bar is the share of that day's checks that passed.
Machine disks can be backed up on a schedule (boxd machine config set backups.period 24h) to object storage kept apart from the machines. Backups are kept for 7 days unless you choose otherwise.
